Council Member Corbett said the Broadmoor Neighborhood Association has <br /> expressed concern about people's ability to cross Bancroft Avenue <br /> because of the speed of traffic at Broadmoor. She said they suggested <br /> a stop sign on Bancroft, and she asked staff to look into what other <br /> alternatives there might be. She said she understands there is talk <br /> about signalizing Bancroft at Durant, but she would like other options <br /> explored. <br /> E. Council Member Kerr said he is glad to see activity coming together on <br /> graffiti . He said he had been told that four people were caught in <br /> Washington Manor Park, who were outsiders, not from San Leandro. He <br /> said the City needs to increase fines, make parents responsible, and <br /> publicize the program, possibly through signs in parks. <br /> F. Council Member Kerr spoke regarding last Saturday's Earthquake <br /> Preparedness Program at the Library. He said it was an excellent <br /> program, well attended. He said he also attended Hayward's program. <br /> He said he thinks the City needs to put this program on every year and <br /> it should be expanded. He said people are becoming aware of the need <br /> for earthquake preparedness and noted he ran into Mr. and Mrs. Hilton <br /> at both programs. <br /> G. Council Member Kerr said he attended the Grand Opening of the <br /> Washington Manor Junior League Baseball Season. He said there are 850 <br /> children, ages 6-18 years, in the program. He said the Grand Opening <br /> was well attended and most of the City Council was there. <br /> H. Council Member Polvorosa reported the opening of the Girls' Bobby Sox <br /> season last week. His wife, who is one of the co-founders, was asked <br /> to toss out the first ball ; and he noted the little girl that she <br /> tossed the ball to was so small Mrs. Polvorosa had to make an underhand <br /> pitch rather than an overhand in order to reach her target. <br /> I . Council Member Polvorosa noted that Gene Re's wife had her purse stolen <br /> near Lucky's. He said Mr. Re asked him to pass on his appreciation to <br /> the Police Department for their quick response and their efforts in <br /> consoling Mrs. Re, who was quite distraught. <br /> J. Council Member Perry said the ABAG General Assembly is starting to <br /> receive press attention regarding the State cutbacks on city and county <br /> funding and has adopted a "Stop-and-Go Program" -- "Stop" standing for <br /> "Stop Taking Our Property Tax" and "Go" standing for "Government <br /> Overhaul . " She said she gave a copy of the Resolution to the City <br /> Council , as well as a copy of Contra Costa County's controversial <br />
