Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - April 19, 1993 Page - 3 - <br /> 5. PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> . Public Comments are limited to 3 minutes per person. The public is invited <br /> to make any comments related to Agenda items or other items of public <br /> interest at this time. Comments regarding Public Hearing items will be <br /> heard during the Public Hearing portion of the Agenda. <br /> A. Vera Ayers, 381 Melven Court, suggested that the City Council clean <br /> house more thoroughly and eliminate expenses that are not needed. She <br /> said the City does not need a full -time Mayor or a newsletter and cited <br /> Sunnyvale as an example. She said Department Heads and their <br /> assistants should wear more than one hat. She said Items E and F under <br /> New Business, when presented, should be very specific. <br /> Mayor Karp said San Leandro has had a full -time Mayor since 1957. Mrs. <br /> Ayers said the City should look for places where it can tighten the <br /> strings and should go back to a part-time Mayor. <br /> Council Member Faria asked about her objections to Items E and F. Mrs. <br /> Ayers said the Agenda was not specific. Council Member Faria said the <br /> items do not affect elected officials. Mrs. Ayers said citizens should <br /> know what it is going to cost the City. Council Member Corbett said <br /> the memo said the net savings to the City would be approximately <br /> $480,000. <br /> Council Member Perry said the City of Sunnyvale rotates its Mayor and <br /> has a full -time staff member who does all the staff work. She said San <br /> Leandro does not have full -time staff costs. Council Member Perry and <br /> Mayor Karp said they would be happy to go over this information with <br /> Mrs. Ayers . <br /> B. Joannie Botello, a Board Member of SAVE (Shelter Against Violent <br /> Environments) , said she was there to "sweeten up their evening" and <br /> handed out truffles and announced SAVE's "Sweet 16 Chocolate Fair" fund <br /> raiser on May 23, 1993, at the Fremont-Newark Hilton. She thanked the <br /> City Council for their support of SAVE throughout the year. <br /> C. Lavern Anderson, 1495 - 159th Avenue, Representing Bonaire Homeowners <br /> Association, invited the Mayor and City Council to a "Picnic in the <br /> Park" on June 5, 1993, in Bonaire Park, in recognition of the 155 <br /> original homeowners that still live in the area. He also noted that <br /> weeds were being removed at Chez Doucet Restaurant and thanked whoever <br /> was responsible and thanked the City for the junk pickup. <br /> D. Don Cook, 2155 Edgehill Court, spoke regarding Item B under New <br /> Business. He said this matter came before the City Council in August, <br /> and presentations were made saying why this parcel should not be split. <br /> He said there is now a letter saying everything could be worked out, <br /> but he did not agree. <br /> Mayor Karp suggested this matter be opened later in the meeting so <br /> people in the audience could speak. <br />
