Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - June 14, 1993 Page - 17 - CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS (continued) Mayor Faria noted that some School Board members were attending school graduations, and there may have been other commitments. C. Council Member Corbett echoed Council Member Myers' comments regarding the Cherry Festival and the Flag Day Ceremony, and thanked all of the participants in the parade. She said the Cherry Festival was a wonderful day and everyone had a good time. D. Council Member Kerr echoed those sentiments. He said both activities were bigger and better this year. He said it was disappointing so few young people attended the Flag Day Ceremony; he said it is very impressive. He said charging admission did not hurt the Cherry Festival . E. Council Member Kerr said the dredge spoils hauling on Lewelling Boulevard has been going very smoothly. He said the trucks come off the site very slowly and do not rush down Lewelling Boulevard. He said he has not had one complaint. F. Council Member Polvorosa agreed the Flag Day Ceremony is a nice event, and he would like to see more children attend and learn the history of our nation. He said the Cherry Festival was very well attended and the charge was of no real concern. He commended Dan Paiva for his work in coordinating the Festival . G. Council Member Polvorosa said 20 homes abutting the Floresta Overpass have lost their privacy as a result of the modifications to the Overpass. He said the replacement trees are very small , no retaining wall has been installed, and the cyclone fence does not go all the way to one end. He said Cal -Trans has not worked very well with the City on this, and there should be a meeting with Cal -Trans, residents, and City staff to see if something can be worked out. H. Council Member Polvorosa noted there is graffiti on San Leandro Boulevard between Harlan and Williams, on the railroad track and billboard. I. Council Member Perry said she enjoyed the Cherry Festival and Flag Day. She said it was nice that the timing of the Festival allowed San Leandro High School students to participate. J. Council Member Perry thanked all the participants in the Yellow Ribbon Campaign. She said they covered East 14th Street from City. Hall to beyond Bayfair. She noted Supervisor Steele was very impressed and has collected almost all the money needed for the cost of the ribbon through public contributions. She thanked the Police and Fire Departments for their participation.
