Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - June 24, 1993 Page - 5 - members of Associated supporting Mr. Reed. Al Rosenga, from Associated, said they could not reach all of the members. Council Member Corbett said five of eight were in favor of Dale Reed, three were not, and there are 14 total delegates. The City Council then conducted a second voice-vote, with Council Members Perry, Polvorosa and Corbett voting for Paul Nahm and Mayor Faria and Council Members Kerr and Myers voting for Dale Reed. Mayor Faria suggested that the Council utilize a tie-breaker process and ask Mr. Reed and Mr. Nahm several additional questions. Both applicants responded to the following questions, as well as supplemental questions. What issues are important to you? How will you insure they are addressed? How do you assure that the City is sensitive and responsive to all elements of the community? How can the City assure that everyone is a welcome part of the community? Why are you interested in serving on the City Council? What is your greatest strength? Mayor Faria thanked both of the applicants and noted that they were both extremely well qualified. He expressed the City Council 's appreciation for the applicants' work and efforts. He said either of the applicants would be a good Council Member. Mayor Faria called for a motion or a ballot. The City Council utilized paper ballots. The results of the vote were again tied, with Council Members Perry, Polvorosa and Corbett voting for Paul Nahm and Mayor Faria and Council Members Kerr and Myers voting for Dale Reed. Council Member Myers moved to appoint Paul Nahm to the Council seat in District 1. Council Member Myers noted the need to move forward and said he hoped for unanimous vote. The motion was seconded by Council Member Corbett, and carried unanimously.
