Council Member Myers said he and Mayor Faria attended the Martin C.
Kauffman 100 Club of Alameda County, the purpose of which is to provide
support to widows, widowers, and dependents of police officers and
firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty. He said over
400 people attended this worthwhile event.
B. Council Member Myers said there are a number of homes in the Mulford
Gardens area which do not receive their water from EBMUD but use wells
for drinking water. He said some of the wells have been tested and
found to be contaminated, but it would cost $15,000 to $25,000 for the
property owners to hook up to EBMUD. He said the City is working to
find out who these people are and how they can be helped.
Mike Oliver, City Manager, said he met with the local DTSC manager on
the issue of the plume and well water. He said people need to
understand that their wells must be tested on a regular basis. He said
the only wells with problems are located in the West Avenues, and a lot
of the problems are the result of old agricultural uses. He said the
City is working with EBMUD and DISC to discern the magnitude of the
problem, the types of risks, and the associated costs.
