Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - May 16, 1994 Page - 10 -
NEW BUSINESS (continued)
Mike Oliver said San Leandro had a proud history of reducing its
property tax over a 28-year period. When Prop. 13 passed, the
allocations were frozen, and the City has today a property tax rate
that allocates 16 cents per dollar to San Leandro. Berkeley receives
40 cents. Comparing San Leandro to Alameda, San Leandro's total
assessed valuation is $4. 1 billion; Alameda's is $3.8 billion; but
Alameda receives $5 million per year more in property taxes than San
Leandro, even though the residents pay the same amount, because
Alameda's rate was 33 cents per dollar and San Leandro's was 16 cents.
F.
