Council Member Loeffler said he and two other Council Members went on <br /> a tour of the Northridge Area of Los Angeles to view the results of the <br /> earthquake. He said one must see the area in order to understand the <br /> impact and to understand what it takes to prepare a community. He said <br /> that area lost 24,000 homes. He noted there is still much to be done <br /> in San Leandro. <br /> E. Council Member Loeffler said that, during this holiday season, people <br /> need to pull together. He said there are many needs in the community, <br /> and everyone should try to reach out to all of their new neighbors and <br /> welcome them to the community. <br /> F. Council Member Loeffler said the new video which he had seen recently <br /> gave new images of San Leandro. <br /> G. Council Member Kerr agreed the video is well done and very impressive <br /> and was not done with City funds. <br /> H. Council Member Kerr said he had attended the Symphony in Castro Valley, <br /> and it was a very good program. He said the highlight was "Toys," <br /> played by Council Member Loeffler and Police Chief Maginni's. <br /> I . Council Member Polvorosa said the Community Fair at the Library was a <br /> nice affair. He said the singers and dancers were particularly enjoyed <br /> by the people attending. He said a larger space could have been used; <br /> but the people with booths, including his wife, were quite happy. <br /> J. Council Member Polvorosa asked everyone to drive safely and to adhere <br /> to traffic signals during this holiday season. <br /> K. Council Member Perry pointed out that there is a "Giving Tree, " at the <br /> Community Library. She encouraged everyone to participate. She said <br /> 540 children are registered. <br /> L. Council Member Perry said she and the Mayor met with the City's guests <br /> from Japan and had a wonderful time and a real cultural exchange. <br /> M. Council Member Perry said, in the Northridge tour, they only looked at <br /> housing units, not commercial . She noted that 10 months after the <br /> earthquake only 1 ,000 out of 24,000 residential units had been <br /> repaired. She said there are a number of ghost towns throughout the <br /> City, and no services remain in those areas. She said there are <br /> similar structures in San Leandro, and she is proud that San Leandro is <br /> on the front burner in this effort. <br /> N. Council Member Perry also congratulated the Historical Railroad Society <br /> on their Open House. <br />
