Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - December 19, 1994 Page - 12 - PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued) The following Resolution was then introduced: Resolution No. 94-218, Resolution of Necessity Authorizing Acquisition of Certain Property for the Washington Avenue and Halcyon Drive Intersection Improvement Project (STPL-5041) and Finding that the Public Interest and Necessity Require the Proposed Project, that the Location Thereof Causes the Least Private Injury, that the Subject Property Is Necessary for the Proposed Project (Land at the Northerly Corner of Washington Avenue and Halcyon Drive - Southern Pacific Transportation Company) (authorizes the City Attorney to petition the court to begin eminent domain proceedings against Southern Pacific Transportation Company) . (1206) Introduced by Council Member Polvorosa, who moved its adoption, seconded by Council Member Perry, and carried by a majority vote (7) . 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS A. Council Member Myers said he attended the Carpenters Hall Christmas dinner for the needy last Saturday and 706 people were served. He said it was a heartwarming and gratifying event. B. Council Member Myers thanked the San Leandro Management Organization and the San Leandro City Employees' Association for their support and continuing efforts to be part of reducing costs in San Leandro. He noted those employees are losing 3% of their gross income through the Furlough Program. C. Council Member Myers wished everyone Happy Holidays. D. Council Member Loeffler noted there is extensive graffiti on the freeway walls between Williams and Marina and said it is a sad commentary. He said he has also noticed graffiti on some of our major businesses. He asked for a report on the total cost of controlling graffiti , including costs to the City, School District, and businesses and said we need to get something positive going. E. Council Member Loeffler wished everyone Happy Holidays. F. Council Member Kerr also said the Carpenters' Hall dinner was rewarding and much appreciated. He thanked the Bonaire Civic League and Lavern Anderson for their dinner event. He said the Greenhouse Marketplace McDonald's event was enjoyable. He wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. G. Council Member Polvorosa suggested that staff identify a permanent site with an existing tree for the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. H. Council Member Polvorosa commended Bonaire Civic League for an enjoyable evening.
