Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - February 18, 1992 Page - 18 -
PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued)
Council Member Glaze also said the sites are separate. However, he
asked the City Attorney to review the Greenhouse Market Place
Agreement, Conditions of Approval , and EIR to see if there was a way
the City could obtain improvements in parking, traffic circulation,
landscaping, etc.
Council Member Glaze asked questions regarding the refrigerator units
that are planned to be used on the site. He said they appear to be
temporary in nature. Mr. Weisbrod said the units would be placed in
the old nursery area, would be attached to the building, and would be
screened from view with a solid, masonry wall .
Council Member Glaze asked if there were any of these units elsewhere
in San Leandro because he was concerned this might set a precedent.
Howard Stein, Sav Mart Supermarkets, said the refrigerator units are
not intended to be temporary. They are permanent, pre-fab units built
to specification to make this building work as a market. He said they
are insulated stainless-steel , and they will be shielded from the
street. He said they will be there for the life of the market. If the
market closes or the use changes, they would be removed; but he said
the market plans on signing a long-term lease. He said there is no
room inside the store for these units. He said they are currently
being used at two other stores.
John Justino, 1211 - 147th Avenue, said these types of refrigerator
units had been used at the old Squeezer's Restaurant.
There being no further comments from the public, on motion of Council
Member Faria, seconded by Council Member Santos, and carried
unanimously, the Public Hearing was closed.
The following Motion was then introduced:
MINUTE ORDER NO. 92-10 (1009)
MATTER OF PD-91-02 GDP/PDP
PLANNED UNIT DEVELOPMENT GENERAL AND PRECISE DEVELOPMENT PLANS
TO PERMIT CONVERSION OF AN EXISTING BUILDING
TO A SUPERMARKET OPERATING ON A 24-HOUR BASIS
INCLUDING MINOR BUILDING EXPANSION AND
EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS TO THE BUILDING
LOCATED AT 699 LEWELLING BOULEVARD
WILSON KOELZER, ARCHITECT FOR SAV MAX SUPERMARKETS
On motion by Council Member Glaze, who moved its approval , seconded by Council
Member Perry, and carried by the following called vote, the City Council approved
PD-91-02.
AYES: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos;
Mayor Karp ( 7 )
NOES: None ( 0 )
ABSENT: None ( 0 )
