Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - March 16, 1992 Page - 16 - <br /> PUBLIC HEARINGS (continued) <br /> Dwight Anderson, Representing Best Transport, Inc. , said Best is a <br /> subsidiary of a larger company which has an operation in Roseville. He <br /> said W. R. Grace is a customer of their mother company. He said they <br /> produce a non-hazardous, water-base lid liner for food products. He <br /> said they came by the Best site and changed some tires on a trailer <br /> that was having trouble. He said changing the tires was only a one- <br /> time matter on the way to a customer in Hayward from Davis Street and <br /> that they stopped in at the Best location because there is no longer a <br /> truck stop in San Leandro. <br /> Larry Norry, said he has numbers from placards on the tractor-trailer <br /> that the Fire Department indicated are hazardous materials and that <br /> this has happened three or four days in a row in the last couple of <br /> weeks. <br /> Ms. Jones, 2660 Williams Street, said she feels this is a time when we <br /> should be trying to keep people in work instead of putting them out of <br /> work. <br /> William Carrish, 13025 Neptune Drive, Representing San Leandrans for <br /> Reasonable Growth and the Shoreline Property Owners Association, said <br /> these groups are against the Appeal by Mr. Kerry. He said the last <br /> vote by the City Council showed it was all cut and dried. He noted <br /> recent referendums on Chabot Terrace and the City Financial Plan. He <br /> said things are changing in San Leandro, and he referred to a recall in <br /> Pacifica and said this could happen in San Leandro. <br /> Council Member Faria asked Mr. Carrish if he was in favor of any growth <br /> in San Leandro. Mr. Carrish said he was when the growth was <br /> reasonable. <br /> Mr. Carrish noted that a number of businesses have been hounded out of <br /> San Leandro and gave an example of the Cherry Pit. He also said Perk's <br /> Car Lot was forced to leave San Leandro. <br /> Bill Kerry, said many people in San Leandro appreciate everything the <br /> City Council has done and are proud of the City Council . <br /> There being no further comments from the public, on motion of Council <br /> Member Perry, seconded by Council Member Glaze, and carried <br /> unanimously, the Public Hearing was closed. <br /> In response to questions by the City Council , Steve Meyers, City <br /> Attorney, said the only matter before the City Council was the Appeal <br /> of the zoning revocation. He said if the City Council wishes to <br /> consider rezoning the property they can direct the Planning Commission <br /> to prepare a Resolution of Intention. He said if they wished to do so <br /> he recommended they continue this matter until the Planning Commission <br /> recommendation is received. <br />
