Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - March 16, 1992 Page - 8 -
NEW BUSINESS (continued)
I . RESOLUTION NO. 92-67 (2680)
RESOLUTION NOMINATING AND APPOINTING
MEMBER TO THE YOUTH ADVISORY COMMISSION
MICHELLE M. WARTENBE
DISTRICT 5
Introduced by Council Member Corbett, who moved its adoption, seconded by Council
Member Glaze, and carried by the following called vote:
AYES: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Polvorosa, Santos;
Mayor Karp ( 7 )
NOES: None ( 0 )
ABSENT: None ( 0 )
J. Matter of Mayor's Blue Ribbon Finance Committee.
Mayor Karp said that, at the March 2, 1992, City Council Meeting, the
City Council had tabled the matter of forming a Mayor's Blue Ribbon
Finance Committee so they would have time to digest the proposed
representation and procedures and processes of the committee. He said
he was bringing this matter up now because he felt time was of the
essence. He said preparation of the City budget is in process and the
budget is being formulated. He said he feels the message was loud and
clear from the coalition that opposed the Financial Plan that they
would like to be included in the budget process, and he feels to
exclude their ideas and recommendations would be a disservice to the
community. He said he has striven during his six years as Mayor to
include all facets of the community in all decisions and in working
together. He said the City Council receives recommendations from the
community on all other phases of government, and budgets should not be
any different. He said almost 6,500 people signed a referendum that
sent the City Council a message, and it is now important to hear the
message that the people of San Leandro want to be a part of the
financial process of the City, and he asked that this matter be removed
from the table.
Council Member Perry said she had given the City Manager information
regarding a pilot project and she wished to receive feedback on that
information and what the composition of any committee should be.
No further action was taken on this matter.
