PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> A. Public Comments Regarding the Dunsmuir Heights Development, Oakland <br /> John Bailey, Dunsmuir Ridge Alliance, read a letter from Christine <br /> Scobee requesting that the City Council hold a Public Hearing in order <br /> for the community to present concerns regarding the proposed Dunsmuir <br /> Heights housing project in Oakland. He said it is of the utmost <br /> importance that the community at large address the City Council with <br /> concerns and provide data for the Council to make a meaningful <br /> opposition to the project. He said the City Council needs to get a <br /> sense of where the community stands on this project. <br /> Susan Goodman, President of the Broadmoor Neighborhood Association, <br /> concurred with Mr. Bailey' s request and concerns. She said her <br /> Association has been consistently opposed to the project, Associated <br /> Homeowners recently voted to renew its opposition, and the City Council <br /> has received a .list of names of people who have written to the City <br /> Council in opposition to the project. She said there were inconsistent <br /> and unanswered questions at the City Council 's recent Work Session. <br /> She said it is not just the North Area that is in danger from this <br /> project. She said an independent consultant should be hired to look at <br /> the project objectively and report to the City Council . She said she <br /> understands this is a critical time for the City's fiscal situation, <br /> but the cost for a consultant would be very small compared to the <br /> potential impact of the project. <br /> Council Member Corbett said, since the Work Session on this matter, <br /> there has been an Oakland Planning Commission meeting, of which she <br /> viewed a video tape. She said she was concerned with some of the <br /> Commission's comments at that meeting, and it appeared that the <br /> mitigations requested by San Leandro were rejected offhand by the <br /> Commission. She expressed concern about the Commission's attitude and <br /> said she thinks it would be appropriate to have a Public Hearing on <br /> this matter. She said changes have been made to the project, and it is <br />
