Minutes - San Leandro' City Council Meeting - September 8, 1992 Page - 5 -
PUBLIC COMMENTS (continued)
Council Member Faria said he is interested in impacts on San Leandro.
He said the visual impact is Oakland's problem, and San Leandro cannot
tell them not to build the project. He said San Leandro has said the
project is objectionable. He said he would like to see nothing built
there.
Mayor Karp asked if Mr. Bailey's group had any objections to meeting
with staff. Mr. Bailey said they did not but also felt there was a
need for a Public Hearing.
Council Member Corbett asked if a Public Hearing could be held on
September 14th. She said it is very important to provide a public
forum. Mayor Karp said there is a full Agenda for the 14th.
Council Member Faria said the developer should also be allowed to
speak.
Susan Goodman said the developer has had every opportunity to make
presentations and it is important to allow the community to should what
they feel about this project. She said we can have control of our
community.
Mayor Karp suggested two options: meet with staff and a one-hour only
Public Hearing on the 14th at which the developer would also be allowed
to make a presentation.
Ms. Goodman asked if there is not a forum in San Leandro to speak. She
said the elected officials should know what the community feels.
Mayor Karp asked if there is a consensus for a Public Hearing.
Council Member Perry said, because of the time line, she felt the
involved parties should sit down with staff. She said San Leandro has
taken a position against the project and looked at traffic, park-land
in-lieu, etc. , for four years. She said there are areas that we have
continued to pursue in terms of achieving mitigation. She said, if
there are specific issues which are not being addressed, she would like
to see a checklist which staff can discuss with the developer.
Ms. Goodman asked if Dunsmuir Alliance could work with staff and make
a presentation to the City Council as well . Mayor Karp offered a
meeting with staff and a one-hour presentation before the City Council .
Ms. Goodman said she wanted a Hearing for the community only, not a
battle with the developer. She said she would be concerned if the
developer made a presentation as well .
Council Member Corbett suggested she work with staff on the details of
a Public Hearing, in light of the problem with time. Mayor Karp said
one hour had been offered for a Hearing. Council Member Kerr suggested
45 minutes for each side.
