If the violations continue, the <br /> City could institute proceedings to revoke the Conditional Use or file <br /> an action in court. He said the only difference in this Permit will be <br /> the automatic review every two years, instead of on a complaint basis <br /> only. <br /> 9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> A. Mayor Karp read a letter from Mario Polvorosa, former Vice Mayor of the <br /> City, announcing his retirement from his shoe repair business. He also <br /> noted the recent newspaper article by Rita Resare about Mr. Polvorosa. <br /> He noted Mr. Polvorosa's great contributions to the community over the <br /> years. He said many people of stature have stopped by Mr. Polvorosa's <br /> shop for a shoe shine and conversation, including Admiral Nimitz, <br /> Truman and Kennedy. He said Norman Mineta, Chairman of Public Works of <br /> the House, recently sent his regards to Mr. Polvorosa. He said losing <br /> the shop is like losing your right arm because you could always count <br /> on Mario for advice or to tell you what he didn't like. He said this <br /> is a sad day. <br /> B. Council Member Myers said he agreed with Mayor Karp' s comments and was <br /> sad to see Mr. Polvorosa retire. <br /> C. Council Member Myers noted the upcoming Cable TV increase. He said it <br /> is disturbing, at a time when cities are cutting costs and losing <br /> employees, to see Cable TV raise their rates to give employees a raise. <br /> D. Council Member Myers noted a letter from a student apologizing for <br /> inappropriate behavior at a recent Council meeting. He said the letter <br /> gives you faith in our students. <br /> E. Council Member Myers noted that Macy's, Kraft, the San Leandro <br /> Optimists and Cherry City Cyclists have all donated to the City's <br /> Police Bicycle Patrol . <br /> F. Council Member Corbett said Mr. Polvorosa was quite a fixture in town. <br /> She said she knows he will still be seen around town and will always <br /> have a smile and a hello for everyone. <br /> ' G. Council Member Kerr said he received a suggestion from Chuck Plante <br /> that the City print the City Newsletter in the San Leandro Times <br /> instead of printing it separately. <br /> H. Council Member Polvorosa said Mario Polvorosa, his uncle, is a true <br /> character. He recalled a letter from Boston that simply had a picture <br /> of a wheel on it, and it was delivered to Mr. Polvorosa. <br />
