(2711)
Introduced by Council Member Faria, who moved its adoption, seconded by
Council Member Polvorosa, and carried by the following called vote:
AYES: Council Members Faria, Kerr, Myers, Perry, Polvorosa;
Mayor Karp ( 6 )
NOES: None ( 0 )
ABSENT: Council Member Corbett ( 1 )
A. Resolution Approving Contractual Services Agreement with G. T. Kuntz,
Consulting Engineer, Relating to East 14th Street Light System
Improvement, Phase I , Project No. 92-8356 (provides for the replacement
of street light electrical systems along three segments of East 14th
Street: Toler Avenue to Chumalia/Hays, Estudillo to Maud/Thornton, and
Blossom Way to Bayfair Drive) .
Mike Oliver said this is the street-light project on East 14th Street
which has been discussed for some time. Bill Silva said the project
was approved in this year's budget, which identified those areas of
East 14th Street which are in the most disrepair. He said the total
project is about $362,000, and the design work is complex because of
the failed condition of the conduits, pull boxes and junction boxes,
many of which are located in the street right of way. He said this
project also includes the overhead-fed lights at the south end of East
14th Street. He said the total cost of the project on East 14th Street
is about $3 million plus $7 million in undergrounding. He said this is
the first phase.
Mayor Karp noted the lights on the south end are aluminum 440's and
said they must be repaired to keep the system going.
Council Member Kerr asked if the specifications include all new conduit
and boxes. Mr. Silva said yes, because they are beyond repair. Mr.
Silva further said this project is scheduled to precede the Cal -Trans
rehabilitation of East 14th Street scheduled for next year.
