Minutes - San Leandro City Council Meeting - May 20, 1991 Page - 8 - <br /> NEW BUSINESS (continued) <br /> Mayor Karp said the City did not have $14,000 available to support this <br /> Commission, but he liked the idea of the use of volunteers. <br /> Council Member Santos said he felt high school students had the maturity <br /> and ability to advise adults of their needs and perspective. He said <br /> he supports the idea but felt it was not a panacea. <br /> Council Member Perry said when she was a member of a City Youth <br /> Committee years ago the Committee performed some aspects of the <br /> Committee work, such as their own minutes, and this was part of the <br /> learning experience. She said existing staff would also be part of the <br /> learning experience and this would be a building process. <br /> Council Member Corbett said she felt the City could find the money for <br /> this Commission and that the Commission was vital and must be supported <br /> adequately. <br /> Dick Randall , City Manager, said he had heard a number of good ideas <br /> and comments. He said it was obvious this was an important Commission <br /> and staff would come back to the City Council with a funding and <br /> staffing proposal . He said a certain level of support will be necessary <br /> to make the Commission successful . <br /> Council Member Glaze also noted that the Commission should be <br /> established as proposed now and the matter of adding sophomores or other <br /> members should be looked at later. <br /> The following Motion was then introduced: <br /> MINUTE ORDER NO. 91-38 (2680) <br /> MOTION ESTABLISHING A <br /> YOUTH ADVISORY COMMISSION <br /> On motion by Council Member Glaze who moved its approval , seconded by Council <br /> Member Perry and carried by the following called vote, the City Council directed <br /> the City Attorney to take all necessary steps to establish the Youth Advisory <br /> Commission. <br /> AYES: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Glaze, Perry, Santos; <br /> Mayor Karp ( 6 ) <br /> NOES: None ( 0 ) <br /> ABSENT: Council Member Polvorosa ( 1 ) <br />
