Costs of Services:
Site 1, Downtown San Leandro BART, substation building- $25,000
Site 2, 1800 Merced Street- $22,500
Site 3, 1605 Abrams Court- $22,500
Site 4, 15000 Farnsworth Avenue- $10,000
TOTAL $80,000.
Maintenance:
All sites will be sealed upon completion with an anti-vandalism clear coat. This
sealant, called Graffiti Defenz Sheercoat, was developed by Precita Eyes Mural Arts
Company of San Francisco. This clear coat is a UV protectant that seals the color in
and delays the fading from sun exposure, providing murals with long lasting color
vibrance and brilliance. This sealant also provides protection from tagging, graffiti and
other forms of vandalism. By applying the clear coat it provides protectant layer
between the art and the exterior elements/vandalism. When vandalized the unwanted
tagging/graffiti can be washed off by ‘spray and wipe’ with regular graffiti removal
cleaners, such as ‘goof off’.
Maintaining and removing vandalism on murals can be an intricate and delicate
process. Those doing the maintenance must make sure to not disturb the artwork. For
this reason Athen B. Gallery is willing to take on the roll of maintaining the mural sites
for a duration of 5 years. A suggested discretionary budget of 5%, or $4,000 should be
set a side for this maintenance. The initial 5% or $4,000 will come directly out of the
initial budget of this scope, setting aside $1,000 from each of the four murals. If the
maintenance goes beyond this 5% or $4,000 over the course of the 5 year period
additional funding may be needed for maintenance. The maintenance needs and costs
should be reviewed on an annual basis.
