The Arts and Culture Program could develop a smart phone application <br />specific to its art collection with linkages to information on the artists. A portal <br />could be placed on each artwork that links to the Arts and Culture Program <br />website, artist’s website, and other resources utilizing Quick Response l or GPS <br />coordinates. These same resources could link important cultural sites and cultural <br />assets like theatres and performance venues. <br />• Using San Leandro-based Owlized, a location-based virtual reality kiosk, <br />people could envision artwork and art experiences taking place in vacant <br />lots, storefronts, streetscapes, and more. <br />• A trip planner and travel guide, Time Out allows its users to discover <br />and explore new places though an enhanced location-based search. <br />Visual and performing arts events in San Leandro could be added to help <br />travelers plan their visits. <br />PHOTOGRAPHS <br />Photographs of the artwork fabrication and installation processes, artist studios, <br />the City’s artwork collection, special exhibitions, and other activities can be <br />posted on image sharing sites like Flickr, Pinterest, and Snapchat for the public <br />to view. These social media platforms allow users to keep up with their friends <br />from Facebook and Twitter, discover new places and hotspots, share photos and <br />trip recommendations with friends and pick-up rewards from places where they <br />check-in. <br />PROJECT ARCHITECT SELECTION FOR MUNICIPAL <br />PUBLIC ART PROJECTS <br />To reinforce the City of San Leandro’s commitment and expectations regarding <br />public art in Capital Improvement Program projects, it is important to provide <br />advance notice regarding the one percent for art requirement in all Requests for <br />Qualifications and Requests for Proposal prepared by the City of San Leandro <br />for potential project consultants. This is accomplished by including language <br />in the Requests for Qualifications/Requests for Proposal that references the <br />One Percent for Art Ordinance and explains that the selected consultant will be <br />required to work with an artist during the design of the Capital Improvement <br />Program project. <br />During interviews, it is useful to include questions regarding the consulting firm’s <br />experience working with artists and the firm’s approach to public art.
