A line within a lot parallel to a corresponding lot line, which is the boundary of any specified front, side or rear yard, or the boundary of any public right-of-way (whether acquired in fee, easement, established as a future right-of-way line, or otherwise) or a line otherwise established to govern the location of buildings, structures, or uses. Sign. A visual communications device used to convey a message to its viewers. A sign shall mean and include every advertising message, announcement, declaration, insignia, surface or space erected or maintained for identification, advertisement or promotion of the interests of any person, entity, product or service. This shall include any sign located inside the store that is reasonably visible from the street. Sign, Abandoned. A sign on a site or a structure which becomes vacant for a period of three months or more; a sign erected for a previous occupant or business unrelated to the present occupant or business; a sign which pertains to a date, event or purpose, which no longer exists; structural supports to which no sign is attached. Sign, Accessory. A sign which indicates the name of the property, the name or trademark of the person in possession and control of the property, or the business conducted, services rendered, goods produced, distributed or sold, entertainment offered or event to occur upon the property upon which the sign is installed. Sign, Animated. Any sign which is designed to give a message through a sequence of progressive changes of parts or lights or degree of lighting, including, but not limited to reader board signs. Sign Area. The area of each individual sign surface upon, against, or through which the message is displayed or illustrated. The area of a sign surface composed of characters, illustrations, backgrounds, or words attached directly to a wall or vertical surface of a build- ing or structure shall be the area of the smallest rectangle, or series of contiguous rectangles that enclose such characters, illustrations or words.
