Public °ewe,,, Hearing Draft <br />CLIMATE ACTION PREPARATION PROCESS <br />Staff from the City of San Leandro Sustainability Office led preparation of this 2021 CAP <br />update. Members of the San Leandro Green Team, a group of staff from several City <br />departments who meet regularly to discuss and work on sustainability issues, provided <br />critical review and feedback of work during the process. The consulting firm PlaceWorks <br />provided technical support for the CAP update. The first phase of the CAP update process <br />involved preparing the technical analyses that form the foundation of the CAP, including <br />the GHG inventory and forecast and the vulnerability assessment. The project team used <br />these analyses to identify and assess a range of GHG reduction and climate adaptation <br />strategies that respond to the specific conditions and issues of concern in San Leandro. <br />Following this, the project team prepared the CAP update document. <br />The public input process, which ran throughout the CAP update process, is intended to <br />ensure that community stakeholders have a voice in developing the CAP. The City of San <br />Leandro has conducted significant public outreach to educate community groups on <br />climate protection issues, as well as to gather comments from the public. <br />Community Outreach <br />Following best practices around climate equity <br />laid out by the National Association for Climate <br />Resilience Planners and other leading climate <br />justice organizations, the San Leandro <br />Sustainability Office centered relationship - <br />building and listening in the community <br />outreach for the CAP update. The community <br />and stakeholder engagement process for the <br />2021 CAP included in -person and virtual <br />conversations, meetings, gatherings, games, <br />presentations, community workshops, and <br />online surveys and activities. The purpose of the <br />community and stakeholder engagement for <br />the CAP was to understand community needs <br />and capacity, identify vulnerabilities and r is <br />inequities, and build a leadership development <br />infrastructure for community champions to <br />collaborate with City staff on projects and <br />planning. Since climate impacts everyone, and <br />particularly those already impacted by <br />systemic factors such as racism or poverty, a San Leandro residents play the climate board <br />broad and diverse audience was sought. game, Game of Extremes, in January 2020. <br />Over 90 community members attended the CAP <br />update kick-off meeting in February of 2020. <br />Page 24 San Leandro 2021 Climate Action Plan <br />
