Salary continuation beyond the tenth full day of absence <br />will only be granted pursuant to the request procedure. <br /> <br />Leave granted an employee under the above provisions shall not be considered sick <br />leave or deducted from accumulated sick leave. <br /> <br />When an employee has been injured in the line of duty and receives compensation in <br />accordance with the provisions of the Workers' Compensation Act of the State of <br />California, Human Resources shall have submitted to them reports on the forms in the <br />manner prescribed. <br /> <br />An employee injured in the line of duty who requires medical care and/or physical therapy <br />shall schedule, as far as practicable, such appointments at a time so as to be as least <br />disruptive to the work schedule. <br /> <br />Modified Duty - It is the policy of the City to encourage employees to return to work as <br />soon as possible. Every effort will be made to accommodate an employee’s medical <br />needs to ensure a speedy return to work. An injured employee is required to cooperate <br />and comply with requests for information to facilitate the employee’s return to work, either <br />on a modified basis or full duties. <br /> <br />Section 18. Hours of Work <br /> <br />A work week shall be computed as the number of hours customarily considered as a full <br />week's work in the classification and in the department in which the person is employed. <br /> <br />Public Works and civilian Police employees who are regularly assigned to work a majority <br />of their regularly scheduled shift between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. (swing) <br />shall receive a shift differential of two hundred dollars ($200.00) per month. Public Works <br />and civilian Police employees who are regularly assigned to work a majority of their <br />regularly scheduled shift between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. (graveyard) shall <br />receive a shift differential of three hundred dollars ($300.00) per month. Employees who <br />are regularly assigned to provide relief assignments for swing and/or graveyard shifts <br />shall receive the applicable shift differential for the time spent working on such shifts. For <br />continuous 24-hour operations staffed with two (2) shifts, the second shift will receive the <br />graveyard shift differential. <br /> <br />It is understood that such shift differentials shall be included in the computations based <br />upon the base rate for purposes of overtime compensation, holiday, sick leave and <br />vacation leave pay where the employee has worked a shift that requires payment of the <br />differential, as provided in the preceding paragraph, for thirty (30) days or more. The shift <br />differential will be suspended for absences of over thirty (30) continuous days. <br /> <br />The setting of work hours is based upon the operational needs of the department.
