m
To: McMahon Development Group
Re: BAY SIDE BUSINESS CENTER
My name is John Manuel and I represent The Marina Action Committee.
Even though we did not have much time to prepare for this meeting, I
will repeat comments that have been made to both the City of San
Leandro Planning Commission and City Council.
The anchor tenant at this beginning stage of development is most critical
to all of us. We want the quality of future business attracted to the area
to compliment the development not distract from it.
Decisions for development are not just up to the Chamber of Commerce
and other pro business organizations. Input must also come from the
community which up to this meeting did not happen over all the months
staff prepared their proposal for approval.
We want participation in the process. Our problems with Fed Ex have
been known by City officials for some time yet ignored - This has not
been a cakewalk for any of us.
There are some points our committee would like to make concerning
Bayside Business Center. Please understand that any items discussed
and accepted by the Developer would become ""Conditions of Approval" -
would become a matter of public record and would follow the project
through the City Planning/ Council process and also through
development.
There will come a time when the developer will leave the area and any
problems created by the development will become our problem.
1) TRAFFIC IMPACT
Davis Street is at critical mass now. No doubt about it - Costco,
Walmart, Home Depot, Waste Management, etc. All of these contribute to
pure hell for people who live in the surrounding area - Davis West, East
Shore, Timothy_ , Warden, etc. Traffic light resequencing would help but is
not a cure all. One must also ask why this problem with lights has been
left unattended.
