Housing Element Update 2
July 15, 2002
BACKGROUND
The General Plan Update recently concluded with City Council adoption of the
General Plan in May 2002. The Housing Element Update has been on a parallel
process, which began in late-2001 and represents the final State -mandated Element
that will be included in the new General Plan.
MAJOR ISSUES
The Advisory Committee has been addressing a wide range of issues, as required by
State law. One of the first exercises that staff conducted for the Committee was to
review San Leandro's Fair Share Housing Production allotment that is determined
by the State and distributed by the Association of Bay Area Governments. San
Leandro is expected to produce a total of 870 housing units by the end of 2006. The
total amount of low-income and very low-income units is about 300 units. This total
is reduced by 76 units, which includes the ABHOW Senior Housing (60 units) and
the Fuller Lodge II (16 units) projects. Table 1 shows the Fair Share Housing
Production numbers for all jurisdictions in Alameda County.
Table 1 - Regional Housing Production Numbers for Alameda County Jurisdictions
Jurisid
ALAMEDA
Jurisdiction
Need
2,162
UnNeed c.
