City of San Leandro Redevelopment Agency
Major Accomplishments in 2000-01
I. Plaza I & II Redevelopment Area (Central Area/Downtown)
San Leandro Plaza Shopping Center
The City has recently adopted a downtown plan designed to move the Washington Street Plaza
into the 21 st century. This plan involved community workshops and input from groups like the
San Leandro Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Association. The Downtown plan calls
for a community focused plaza area, increased parking, and heightened pedestrian linkages
throughout the downtown and between the downtown and the downtown BART station.
Redevelopment is identified as an implementation tool in the downtown plan, as the area is
within the Plaza Redevelopment Area.
Creekside Plaza Office Complex
Formerly the City's corporation yard, the site in the Plaza Redevelopment Area was vacant for
the past 20 years. Over this time the agency has reviewed numerous proposed uses for the site
ranging from retail stores to movie theaters. This past year the Agency entered into an agreement
with the developer for the sale of the land for the construction of the City's first Class A Office
complex comprising 200,000 square feet of office in three buildings and a parking structure.
Among other things this agreement spells out design standards and improvements for a public
walk along the creek. The new office complex will strengthen and enhance San Leandro's
downtown business community by bringing 500 employees to the site within walking distance of
shopping, dining, and professional services.
Boy Scouts of America Building
The sale of Agency -owned property located at 1001 Davis Street for development of an
approximate 22,000 square foot building to serve as East Bay headquarters for San Francisco Bay
Area Council #28, Boy Scouts of America, Inc.
