Transbay Transit Terminal 2 May 19, 1998
AC Transit indicates in their resolution that the elimination of one of the direct access ramps to the
Transbay Transit Terminal, and making the other ramp bi-directional would adversely affect the
operations of their transit vehicles. There is a potential that the change will have an adverse impact
on their ridership and will eliminate essential staging capabilities on the existing ramps. This will
increase their operation costs.
AC Transit further points out that any negative impact on public transportation transporting people
from the East Bay to San Francisco during the rebuilding and seismically upgrading of the existing
bridge structures would be poor planning and policy making.
There has been no environmental review or public comment on the Caltrans proposal to eliminate
the eastern ramp.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that City Council consider the proposed resolution supporting the continued use
of the existing Transbay Transit Terminal and the ramps which serve that facility.
F2:\COUNCIL\0601 \TRANSBAY.MEM
72
