Jermanis �T O <br />C anager <br />Il-oa- 8 <br />NEI <br />It is recommended that at the November 2, 1998 City Council meeting, the City Council approve <br />staff s short-term and long-term recommendations regarding the Enterprise Funds and direct staff <br />to proceed with implementing the recommendations. <br />BACKGROUND <br />At the August 17, 1998 City Council meeting, the Council approved staff recommendations <br />regarding the Refuse Enterprise Fund, the Storm Water Enterprise Fund, and the Water Pollution <br />Control (Sewer) Enterprise Fund. The purpose of this executive summary is to fulfill the <br />Council's directive to report on the strategy, identify potential issues, and propose timeframes for <br />addressing specific recommendations. A verbal report will be given at the City Council's <br />November 2, 1998 meeting. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Refuse Enterprise Fund <br />Short-term actions - <br />A flyer has been prepared to notify the residential customers in the City's refuse service area <br />that curbside refuse collection will be implemented in early January 1999. The flyers are <br />designed to be door hangers and will be distributed twice throughout the affected residential <br />neighborhoods, once in November and once in December. <br />2. The Refuse Enterprise Fund work force will be reduced by three full-time refuse worker <br />positions as a result of curbside refuse collection service delivery change. This is a mandatory <br />bar ag ining issue and a closed session will be scheduled to discuss this matter with the City <br />Council. <br />
