City Council Facilitation
This item is the result of the teambuilding efforts by the City Council. The funds will be
utilized to assist the City Council in its goal setting efforts. $10,000
Downtown Parking
Staff is currently trying to identify additional areas for parking in the downtown area.
There was a plan developed a number of years ago to purchase houses on Juana,
Washington and Parrott; however, the plan was placed on hold. John Jermanis suggested
that funds be set aside in a reserve to purchase downtown property in the future. He also
informed the Committee that he would look into reviving a former policy on this issue.
The City Council Finance Committee suggested that the City contract with a private
parking company to demolish the Crocker Bank building and construct and operate a
parking garage at the site.
Sports Complex
This project could involve a significant dollar contribution by the City. Staff will bring
back ideas for the City Council Finance Committee's recommendation. This project could
also require the purchase of properties to make it feasible. City staff is in the process of
working with the school district to approach this project as a joint venture.
Shop San Leandro
This item was discussed by the City Council Finance Committee two years ago. At that
time the Committee concluded that the Economic Development program could
accomplish the same goals as a separate Shop San Leandro program.
John Jermanis informed the City Council Finance Committee that the .City of San Rafael
has a successful program that promotes shopping within that City. Staff will contact the
City of San Rafael to get more information.
The Lucky Rewards Card was used as an example of what could be done to promote
shopping in San Leandro.
The proposed Shop San Leandro program would require start-up funds from the City.
The program would be administered by the Chamber in conjunction with a private vender
and would promote shopping in San Leandro City-wide.
CIP Supplement
Increasing the CIP budget to $2.5 million has been on the City Council Finance
Committee agenda for the last two years. Unfortunately, the economic conditions have
not allowed the City Council Finance Committee to recommend increasing the CIP
budget.
62
