City Council Facilitation <br />This item is the result of the teambuilding efforts by the City Council. The funds will be <br />utilized to assist the City Council in its goal setting efforts. $10,000 <br />Downtown Parking <br />Staff is currently trying to identify additional areas for parking in the downtown area. <br />There was a plan developed a number of years ago to purchase houses on Juana, <br />Washington and Parrott; however, the plan was placed on hold. John Jermanis suggested <br />that funds be set aside in a reserve to purchase downtown property in the future. He also <br />informed the Committee that he would look into reviving a former policy on this issue. <br />The City Council Finance Committee suggested that the City contract with a private <br />parking company to demolish the Crocker Bank building and construct and operate a <br />parking garage at the site. <br />Sports Complex <br />This project could involve a significant dollar contribution by the City. Staff will bring <br />back ideas for the City Council Finance Committee's recommendation. This project could <br />also require the purchase of properties to make it feasible. City staff is in the process of <br />working with the school district to approach this project as a joint venture. <br />Shop San Leandro <br />This item was discussed by the City Council Finance Committee two years ago. At that <br />time the Committee concluded that the Economic Development program could <br />accomplish the same goals as a separate Shop San Leandro program. <br />John Jermanis informed the City Council Finance Committee that the .City of San Rafael <br />has a successful program that promotes shopping within that City. Staff will contact the <br />City of San Rafael to get more information. <br />The Lucky Rewards Card was used as an example of what could be done to promote <br />shopping in San Leandro. <br />The proposed Shop San Leandro program would require start-up funds from the City. <br />The program would be administered by the Chamber in conjunction with a private vender <br />and would promote shopping in San Leandro City-wide. <br />CIP Supplement <br />Increasing the CIP budget to $2.5 million has been on the City Council Finance <br />Committee agenda for the last two years. Unfortunately, the economic conditions have <br />not allowed the City Council Finance Committee to recommend increasing the CIP <br />budget. <br />62 <br />
