Revenue Adjustments
EMS/Supplemental Paramedic Program
The up -coming election could impact $350,000 in City revenues to support this program.
Business License Tax
$400,000 is needed in 1997-98 to continue supporting the five police officers hired as a
result of the Crime Bill. Although the Business License Tax is intended to support the
officers' salaries, additional demands will be placed on this funding source for other staff
salaries as well.
John Jermanis suggested that the idea of placing an Alcohol Tax on the next ballot be
postponed due to the high number of measures that will be placed on the ballot in the up-
coming election.
The City Council Finance Committee agreed that:
- The City needs to develop additional innovative ways to raise revenue without raising
taxes. The Committee requested that staff bring forth alternatives for their
consideration.
- The City could save money if we generated our own utility power.
- The City should work with the County to determine the feasibility of providing library
services to Alameda County residents.
- The City should take a more aggressive approach to get additional grants. A suggestion
was made to either hire a grant writer or pool current staff in order to create a grant
writing team.
III. Public Comments
None.
-- 6
