There are a number of different sources of data that the City could access in order to better <br />inform its ongoing business retention, expansion, and recruitment efforts. Several sources <br />and some potential uses are described in Appendix B. <br />Roles and Responsibilities. Economic Development staff will be primarily responsible <br />for identifying. obtaining, and reviewing secondary data sources that will support local <br />economic development efforts. Depending on the depth and complexity of the data to be <br />reviewed. the City may wish to contract with a consultant to perform data manipulation <br />and analysis. Regarding local business license data. City Finance Department staff should <br />be responsible for producing reports from the business license data. and forwardins the <br />information to City Economic Development staff. Economic Development staff should <br />review the data and identify firms which should be targeted for outreach. <br />Priority: MEDIUM. Acquisition and review of various secondary data sources should <br />occur on an on -going or as -needed basis, as deemed necessary by Economic Development <br />staff. The review of City business license data should be conducted at least annually for <br />each local business. The Finance Department should provide Economic Development staff <br />business license reports on at least a quarterly basis, to ensure that Economic Development <br />staff can make timely outreach to identified businesses. <br />Costs and Sources of Funding. The primary costs for this program will be for data <br />review and analysis, rather than data acquisition. These costs will be incurred in the form <br />of in -kind staff time to revieA and analvze information or in the form of consultin= <br />contracts that could be used to conduct specialized analvses.
