This packet <br />could also include "get acquainted" coupons and fivers for sponsoring local businesses. <br />Roles and Responsibilities. City Economic Development staff and/or the Chamber of <br />Commerce should take the initial responsibility for developing the materials to be included <br />in the packet. This might involve contacting representatives of new businesses and <br />discussing the types of information that they found necessary or beneficial. and then <br />assembling the appropriate materials. <br />Upon compiling the Welcome Packet materials. the City could assign the Finance <br />Department the responsibility for distribution along with materials provided to neN <br />business license applicants. <br />Priority: MEDIUM <br />Costs and Sources of Funding. Initial costs for this program are estimated to be LOW. <br />and will include professional services for packet design. and staff time to assemble the <br />necessary information. On -going costs for this program are also expected to be LOW. <br />primarily for printing materials and assembling the packets. Some costs might be defraved <br />by sponsoring businesses. <br />Action 1.11: Develop Directory of Small Business Assistance Services <br />This task would involve compiling information regarding the types of business assistance <br />programs available to local businesses. and should include not only programs offered by <br />the City of San Leandro. but also programs available to local businesses through regional. <br />state. or federal programs. By making information about available programs readily <br />available to small businesses. the City can help to promote the use of programs that will <br />assist local businesses to expand and prosper. Often the biggest barrier to small businesses <br />cletting the assistance they need is a lack of awareness of available programs. Also. the <br />process of assembling information on available assistance programs may reveal areas <br />where City services are duplicative of services provided by other organizations. or <br />converselN. where there may be gaps in the types of assistance available to local firms. <br />The information on available programs should be publicized through economic <br />development marketing programs. distributed with the Business Welcome packet proposed <br />in Action 1.8. highlighted periodicall\ in Chamber of Commerce and Manufacturers <br />Association publications. and presented at events such as the Economic Development <br />Breakfast. <br />Roles and Responsibilities.
