City of San Leandro <br />2023-2031 Housing Element Update <br /> <br />1-8 <br />1.5 Demographics <br />Ensuring adequate housing for all of San Leandro’s present and future residents is a primary housing goal for the City. <br />Chapter 2 examines demographic trends, special housing needs, and housing affordability to provide a comprehensive <br />view of the San Leandro’s housing needs. <br />Many residents in San Leandro are struggling to keep up with increased cost of living. For example: <br /> Approximately 40 percent of households are cost-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30% of income on <br />housing costs <br /> A four-person household with an annual income of $125,600 (AMI for Alameda County in 2021) could not afford <br />the median rent on a 3-bedroom unit or the median home purchase price <br />The following pages visualize select demographic and socioeconomic data representative of the broader topics the <br />Housing Element seeks to address through goals, policies, and programs. <br /> 40% <br />of households spend <br />more than 30% of their <br />income on housing <br /> <br />62% <br />increase in median <br />home sale price <br />between 2015 and 2021 <br /> 44% <br />of housing in the City is renter-occupied <br />56% <br />of housing in the City is <br />owner-occupied <br /> <br />32% <br />of existing homes are multi-family <br /> <br />66% <br />of existing homes are single-family detached <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
