Nothing in this section shall preclude the temporary assignment of an employee to perform some of the duties of a <br />higher classification for the purpose of providing training in the work of the higher classification. Such temporary <br />training assignment shall not constitute acting assignment within the meaning of this section. <br />It is understood that the above provision shall not be interpreted as requiring the City to fill each temporary <br />vacancy by an acting assignment. <br />For the purpose of filling any other temporary vacancy in any position in the Classified Service, during extended <br />leave, to act on the part of an employee filling such position, it is recommended there be created when necessary a <br />temporary position or classification to be known in each case by the name of such position preceded by the word <br />"acting." Whenever such temporary vacancy has existed for a period of thirty (30) consecutive days the appointing <br />power may appoint some qualified person to fill such position on an acting basis. For such acting assignment the <br />employee shall receive the regular rate of pay prescribed as above for such higher level position. <br />The City Manager will: continue to receive currently approved benefits and participate in management non -pay <br />benefits; and be eligible tor-eeeiVe f (4) weeks' s ple fflo„t,.l ., al . ,.atio., lea-vo <br />In accordance with Section 20361 of the Government Code, the person holding the office of City Attorney may <br />elect membership in the Public Employees Retirement System. The pay level used to calculate contributions shall <br />be based upon the equivalent of the top step pay established for the position of Assistant City Manager. Should the <br />pay of the Assistant City Manager position be subsequently modified to a lower amount, the dollar retirement <br />contribution amounts shall remain the same as if the position of Assistant City Manager had continued unmodified. <br />F: ZZ <br />3 <br />
