City Council of San Leandro - May 18, 1972 Page three
Radiotherapy Section (Cont'd) - treatment unit will be installed.
Eden Hospital Radiotherapy serves all of South Alameda County
from Oakland city limits to the southern and eastern boundaries.
Patients from Contra Costa County also are referred to Eden
Hospital for cancer treatment. As in the diagnostic section,
patients waiting for cancer treatment are required to wait
in the corridor.
Physical Thet-apy - The patient load has been increasing steadily
for the past five years. All available area is being used to its
limit. The study reveals that inpatient treatments have been
increasing at the rate of 18.47o annually and outpatient treat-
ments at 20. 37o. Here, too, waiting is in the corridor area.
Respiratory Therapy - The respiratory care program has
grown from two employees to nine employees, becoming an
independent department with trained therapists and a growing
outpatient service. A full scale department with treatment and
diagnostic stations, a chart room and a large area for equipment
storage and servicing will be provided.
Cardiac Care Unit - Presently the cardiac care unit is located
on the Fifth Floor in two semi -private rooms and a ward room.
Because it must be a self-contained unit, requiring a nursing
station within the area, it has become overcrowded due to the
amount of various pieces of equipment, including monitoring
devices needed to observe and treat cardiac patients. The unit
will be relocated on the Fourth Floor and designed expressly
for cardiac care. There will be a total of eight beds, each as a
private unit, and equipped with modern equipment for patient
monitoring. The unit would afford full observation of each
patient by the nursing staff at all times.
Pharmacy - The department is well located with direct access
to the dumbwaiter system for serving the nursing floors and for
direct issue to diagnostic and treatment facilities on the First
Floor. This location is being maintained, however, it is being
modernized to relieve the crowded conditions that now exist and
to meet the advantages of unit dose dispensing system which
requires additional storage space.
Central Supply - Work and storage area presently is inadequate.
The department will be modernized and equipped to meet demands
on its function in the preparation and sterilization for all user
departments.
