Smaller tree limb removal may be required to establish scaffold limbs or to <br />improve weight distribution. <br />Contact Street Services Supervisor if a tree has been pollarded. Do not perform any work on <br />such trees without expressed consent from the Street Services Supervisor or his designee. <br />Contractor will not be paid for any trees not trimmed consistent with these specifications. If at any <br />time, contractor shows an inability to trim consistent with these specifications, the Street Services <br />Supervisor, or said representative, will have the authority to order Contractor to cease all trimming <br />and to have the Purchase Order cancelled. <br />TRAFFIC CONTROL AND ACCESS: Contractor shall post the area where work is to be <br />performed with No Parking signs 72 hours in advance of the work to ensure vehicles are cleared <br />from the work zone. The City shall be notified, via email or telephonically, 72 hours in advance of <br />the location where work will be performed. If said work is canceled, a 24-hour notice must be <br />given. Contractor shall remove No Parking signs and repost the area with the revised date. <br />Contractor shall not completely obstruct public pedestrian pathways or deny access to private <br />property at any time. No streets shall be closed at any time. The Contractor may establish “No <br />Parking” zones, contiguous to the work area by posting signs. The City will enforce parking <br />restrictions only when the Contractor has posted the proper signs and has notified the City Police <br />Department a minimum of 48 hours in advance of the required restriction period. <br />Adequate warning devices, barricades, guards, flaggers or other necessary precautions shall be <br />taken by the contractor to give advised and reasonable protection, safety and warning to persons <br />and vehicular traffic concerned in the area. Construction signs, lights, barricades, etc., shall <br />conform to the latest revision of the Manual of Warning Signs, Lights and Devices for Use in <br />Performance of Work Upon Highways, by California Department of Transportation. <br />Contractor is required to submit a Traffic Control Plan and obtain an encroachment permit prior <br />to commencing work. Contact the Engineering and Transportation Department at 510-577-3428 <br />for assistance. <br />WEEKLY MEETINGS: Contractor shall be required to meet weekly with the Street Services <br />Supervisor, or his representative, to confirm the work completed, discuss any issues that may <br />have occurred, and to review the contractor’s proposed work schedule. <br />INSPECTION OF WORK: The Street Services Supervisor will inspect tree work before payment <br />is approved. Contractor may be required to go back and perform additional trimming on trees that <br />have already been trimmed at no additional cost to the City. <br />EQUIPMENT AND UNIFORMS: Employee uniforms and vehicles operating in the field shall have <br />visible logos that easily identify the Contractor. <br />PAYMENT: Payment shall be on a per tree basis. Only trees approved for trimming by the Street <br />Services Supervisor will be paid for. No payment will be made for any tree which is not trimmed <br />as per these specifications. If the Contractor's activities damage a tree to the extent where it will <br />not recover with good form in the sole judgment of the City's Street Services Supervisor, <br />Contractor shall remove and replace the damaged tree with a replacement tree approved by the <br />City. All such removal/replacement costs will be borne by the Contractor with no payment from <br />the City. If Contractor does not replace a damaged tree, $500 per damaged tree w ill be withheld <br />from any payment due Contractor. <br />Invoices shall be prepared by listing street addresses, number of trees trimmed at the location, <br />and include total number of trees trimmed.
