INFORMATION COLLECTION, ANALYSIS, AND <br />DISSEMINATION <br />Successful incident response relies on access to �mely, relevant, and accurate informa�on. Collec�ng, analyzing, <br />and dissemina�ng informa�on is cri�cal for informed decision-making. <br />6.1. INTELLIGENCE AND INFORMATION <br />Informa�on collec�on involves the processes, procedures, and systems used to gather informa�on and develop a <br />common opera�ng picture. Essen�al elements of informa�on are considered cri�cal intelligence for all response <br />and recovery opera�ons, and may include: <br />• Injuries and fatali�es <br />• Deployments and/or demobiliza�ons <br />• Changes in condi�ons affec�ng the response <br />• Enhanced situa�onal status of dispropor�onately impacted and diverse popula�ons <br />• Condi�ons that affect the capability to respond <br />Essen�al elements of informa�on are collected from a variety of sources: <br />• Field reports from incident command posts and incident loca�ons <br />• Coordina�on calls and situa�on reports from other agencies at all levels of government <br />• Tradi�onal and social media <br />• Calls from the community/disaster hotline <br />• Windshield surveys <br />• Inspec�ons of infrastructure and facili�es <br />• Other public reports <br />The EOC analyzes, confirms, and verifies all informa�on received. Once informa�on is deemed credible, it may be <br />disseminated to other response agencies, partner organiza�ons, and the public. The EOC uses Situa�on Reports, <br />EOC Ac�on Plans (EAPs), and other status reports to deliver priority informa�on to response partners. <br />6.2. PUBLIC INFORMATION <br />During all disasters, public informa�on is coordinated to ensure a consistent message. Once ac�vated, the EOC <br />manages the dissemina�on of �mely and accurate public warnings. The Public Informa�on Officer (PIO) is <br />responsible for emergency alerts and media coordina�on within the EOC. <br />Joint Information System <br />A Joint Informa�on System (JIS) may be ac�vated in complex incidents to support public informa�on <br />coordina�on. The JIS is the broad mechanism that organizes, integrates, and coordinates informa�on to ensure <br />�mely, accurate, accessible, and consistent messaging ac�vi�es across mul�ple departments or jurisdic�ons. The <br />JIS includes the plans, protocols, procedures, and structures for public informa�on. <br />The Joint Informa�on Center (JIC) is a central loca�on that facilitates the opera�ons of the JIS. The JIC provides a <br />physical or virtual space where public informa�on personnel performs cri�cal emergency informa�on func�ons,
