FOR A 132.5 SQUARE FOOT PORTION OF ITS PROPERTY AT 699 LEWELLING BOULEVARD TO MAINTAIN SIGNAL FACILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE 1-8801W ASHINGTON AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT, PROJECT NO. 144-39-007 SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the City Council approve the resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an easement agreement for 132.5 square feet within the sidewalk area on Safeway's property at 699 Lewelling Boulevard, also known as the Greenhouse Marketplace. BACKGROUND The City is undertaking a project to address the traffic congestion in the area of Washington Avenue, Fargo Avenue, Beatrice Street, and the off-ramp of 1-880. Improvements planned for this ACTIA-funded project include: roadway widening, intersection enhancement, 1-880 on- ramp modifications and signal modifications. As part of the project, the entrance to the Greenhouse Marketplace will be expanded to accommodate traffic turning into the center from westbound W ashington Avenue and provide a dedicated right-turn exit lane from the shopping center onto Washington Avenue. To expand the entrance, the sidewalk will be moved back toward the McDonald's property. Within a small portion of this sidewalk, the City will install signal equipment. The sidewalk is on the property owned by Safeway, Inc. Therefore, an easement for the continued maintenance of this facility is required. Current City Council Policy .
