A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with
the SLUSD authorized the development of a joint use facility at BMS and an application for a
grant from the State Department of Parks and Recreation. In February 2006, the SLUSD
received a grant for $1,000,000 to improve the general use turf sports field, repair and improve
the basketball court area, and install supporting infrastructure, including irrigation and drainage
systems. In November 2006, voters approved both the state bond measure 1D and San
Leandro's Measure B school bond. These bonds provided the SLUSD with additional funding to
complete this project.
Analysis
The completed project includes the following components:
• Anew three-lane synthetic fitness track around the perimeter of the playfield
• Playfield subgrade preparation, drainage, and subbase installation (synthetic turf was not
installed by American Civil Constructors)
• Replacement of the asphalt games area in the northeast corner of the property
• Resurfacing of the asphalt basketball court areas adjacent to Bancroft Avenue and
replacement of the basketball standards
• 20-foot tall property line fencing with landscaping along the eastern edge of the property
adjacent to private residences
• Perimeter irrigation line with hose connections around the outside of the track for
maintenance purposes
Jo ~ Jermanis
Ci anager
