CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
STAFF REPORT
DATE:
TO:
FROM:
BY:
November 2, 2009
Stephen Hollister, City Manager
Lianne Marshall, Assistant City Manager
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
Stephen L. Hollister
City Manager
Kathy Ornelas, Community Relations Representative
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
RESOLUTION ADOPTING TITLE 2, CHAPTER 5 OF THE SAN LEANDRO
ADMINISTRATIVE CODE RELATED TO AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES
ACT/SECTION 504 OF THE REHABILITATION ACT OF 1973
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the San Leandro Administrative Code include sections on City staff
assigned as City's Coordinators for the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the
Rehabilitation Act, as well as sections formalizing the City's Reasonable Accommodation Policy
and Grievance Policy related to ADA and Section 504.
BACKGROUND
Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act was enacted in 1973 and the Americans with
Disabilities Act was enacted in 1990, both with the purpose of ensuring and protecting access for
people with disabilities to government services, programs and housing.
