The WPCP was originally
constructed in 1938 and several expansions and modifications have occurred since then. Recent
studies have shown that several facilities and equipment are in need of upgrades, rehabilitation,
or replacement. These improvements must be made to maintain a reliable operation and meet
increasingly stringent regulatory requirements to avoid expensive fines.
In November 2008, Carollo Engineers began preparing design documents for the construction or
rehabilitation of such facilities. The improvements are estimated at $40 million.
