City of San Leandro
Meeting Date: July 6, 2015
Staff Report
Agenda Section:File Number:15-380 CONSENT CALENDAR
Agenda Number:8.C.
TO:City Council
FROM:Chris Zapata
City Manager
BY:David Baum
Finance Director
FINANCE REVIEW:David Baum
Finance Director
TITLE:Staff Report for a Resolution Authorizing the Acquisition of a Replacement
Pumper Fire Truck from Pierce Manufacturing and Authorizing the City
Manager to Execute the Purchase Agreement and Other Documents
Necessary to Finance the Acquisition at a Cost Not to Exceed $530,000
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the resolution authorizing acquisition of a
replacement pumper fire truck. The resolution authorizes the City Manager to execute the
purchase agreement and other documents necessary to finance the acquisition.
BACKGROUND
The City's contract with the Alameda County Fire Department for fire services includes
provisions for City ownership of all fire facilities and equipment, including fire engines.
Currently, the apparatus in City service includes five engines and two trucks. The 2015-16
Fire Service Budget approved by the City Council included the replacement of a pumper truck
based at Station 12. The fire truck will replace a 1996 model, which has an odometer reading
of 165,000 and was acquired in 1996.
Alameda County Fire recently completed a competitive bid for multiple fire engines and other
local agencies can utilize the bid to acquire equipment. The specifications for the equipment
were developed by Alameda County Fire and meet all safety and environmental requirements
of the City.

The truck would be acquired by piggy backing on the Alameda County Fire Department’s bid
and contract with Pierce Manufacturing; the proposed purchase meets the City's equipment
requirements and is consistent with equipment currently in use. For these reasons, staff
recommends that the City acquire a new fire truck utilizing Alameda County Fire Department's
bid.
Page 1 City of San Leandro Printed on 6/30/2015
