City of San Leandro <br />Meeting Date: June 20, 2016 <br />Staff Report <br />Agenda Section:File Number:16-242 CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Agenda Number:8.D. <br />TO:City Council <br />FROM:Chris Zapata <br />City Manager <br />BY:Keith Cooke <br />Engineering & Transportation Director <br />FINANCE REVIEW:David Baum <br />Finance Director <br />TITLE:Staff Report for a Resolution Approving of an Increase in Project Costs from <br />$554,463.00 to $689,414.00 (an Increase of $134,951.00, or 24.3%) for the <br />Annual Sidewalk Repair Program 2014-15; Project No. 2015.0060 <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br />This project provides for the removal and replacement of damaged concrete sidewalks, <br />driveway approaches, curbs and gutters, and the installation of sidewalk curb ramps <br />throughout the City. <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve an increase in project costs from $554,463 to <br />$689,414 (an increase of $134,951, or 24.3%) for the Annual Sidewalk Repair Program <br />2014-15 project. <br />BACKGROUND <br />In 2014, by Resolution No. 2014-117, the City Council awarded the construction contract for <br />the subject project and authorized that the contract change orders may exceed 25%. The City <br />Council also approved the maximum expenses on the subject project, including staff time, to <br />be $554,463, which are the total funds appropriated for the project. <br />The project’s primary focus is to assist homeowners in making repairs to their sidewalk <br />frontage, driveways, curbs and gutters and to install sidewalk curb ramps in select locations <br />requested by users, as well as locations where curb ramps are absent. Property owners can <br />request their sidewalk frontages be repaired at any reasonable time while the contract is <br />active. Typically, there is increased interest from property owners once work on adjacent <br />properties’ frontage is completed. <br />Concurrent with the construction of this Sidewalk Repair project, another project, the Annual <br />Street Sealing 2014-15 project that also required installation of curb ramps began <br />construction.
