Analysis
Cal Coast evaluated the area, including the proposed relocation of the ramp. Following an
extensive study of the area, Cal Coast recommended that the ramp remain at its current location
(on the former Boatworks site) for two main reasons:
• Its current location works better for traffic and circulation, as it does not require vehicles
and trailers to drive by the desirable former Blue Dolphin development site to reach the
ramp, which could be disruptive to its future use
• The current location, being more protected, allows boaters to enter the water in a less
hostile environment than other potential locations
At the January 2009 meeting of the City Council Shoreline-Marina Committee, the Committee
recommended cancelling the Boat Launch Ramp Relocation project.
Current City Council Policy
Not Applicable
Previous City Council Action(s)
• On April 22, 2002, by Resolution No. 2002-55, the City Council authorized a grant
application to the DBW relating to the relocation of the Marina Boat Launch Facility
• On April 5, 2004, by Resolution No. 2004-56, the City Council authorized the City Manager
to enter into a grant agreement with the DBW relating to the relocation of the Marina Boat
Launch Facility
• On February 7, 2005, by Resolution No. 2005-13, the City Council approved a Contractual
Service Agreement with Concept Marine Associates relating to Relocation of the Boat
Launch Ramp
City Council Committee Review and Action
• On January 27, 2009, the City Council Shoreline-Marina Committee recommended
cancelling the Boat Launch Ramp Relocation Project
Applicable General Plan Policy
• Goa121--Maintain and improve San Leandro's existing parks and recreational facilities
Permits and/or Variances Granted
• None required
