Articulate and communicate strategies and priorities for the various roles the Recreation and <br />Human Services Department plays: funder, advocate, and convener. <br />2. Increase awareness of services outside of San Leandro. <br />3. Increase the quality of communication about human services available to San Leandro <br />residents. <br />4. Convene cross-sector stakeholders to plan for the likely cuts to programs serving low- <br />income people at the federal level. <br />5. Increase opportunities for a culturally and economically diverse group of residents – <br />including residents who use human services – to participate in setting priorities for human <br />services and in decision making about funding. <br />6. Create opportunities for other City of San Leandro departments to address human services <br />needs, thereby bringing a human-needs perspective to other departments, building on <br />successful cross-departmental efforts around homelessness with the San Leandro Police <br />Department and around the needs of Spanish-speaking families with very youg children with <br />the San Leandro Library. <br />7. Engage multi-sector partners to plan for meeting the needs of San Leandro’s diverse <br />communities, including those most affected by poverty: Asians, Latinos, and African <br />Americans. <br />8. Bring attention to San Leandro’s special populations and their needs, including grandparents <br />raising grandchildren, young children, transition-age youth, seniors (particularly senior <br />renters), homeless families, immigrants, and people with disabilities. <br />9. Develop a formal food security program, given the informal network of food pantries and <br />providers giving food to those in need and the frequent concerns raised in focus groups and <br />interviews. <br /> <br />
